FAQ
-
What should I eat?
Goalcurve recommends the World Health Organisation Healthy diet fact sheet.
As a general rule, if your loss rate is too low, the best strategy is to carefully adjust your food choices so they keep you nourished and satisfied, but limit non-essential sources of energy.
One of the main purposes of the Dash system is to filter out body water fluctuations, so a consistent intake of sodium, carbohydrates, fibre, and water will definitely help make your readouts more accurate.
-
How often should I weigh?
Our advice is: once a day, before breakfast. Consistency is also important here, so try to measure at around the same time each day. If you think a reading is too high, or too low, take another a while later (or check your scale batteries). Dash will try to use the most sensible number, if more than one is available.
The system is designed to work best with 5-7 readings a week.
-
What about exercise?
Generally speaking, adults are advised to be as active as possible. Again, consistency helps because large variations in physical activity will affect levels of body water.
If you have any questions about how best to balance exercise and diet, consult with a local expert. You may have special nutritional needs, or require an in-person fitness evaluation.

My scale supports BFP, why don't you?
Body Fat Percentage is a useful way to keep tabs on body composition, so we do recommend a scale with BFP. Unlike weight, though, BFP changes a lot more slowly and doesn't need to be filtered to remove daily fluctuation noise.

How do I delete a reading?
If you use a Withings scale, you should first delete it from the Health Mate app, and sync. Similarly, Fitbit readings will need to be deleted using the Fitbit app or website.
Then, delete the data using the Apple Health app.
Usually, the reading has to be deleted twice to prevent it reappearing.

What does a grey bar mean?
It depends!
The first three bars to the right of the Loss Rate Score chart are preview bars. The preview bars are always grey, and give a sense of what to expect if your weight stays the same.
Other bars are grey because no reading exists for that day. They represent "skipped" days. Keep these to a minimum for the most accurate results.

Why is a high score still considered "On Track"?
If you score higher than the target range, the idea is to keep it temporary, unless you're very comfortable tolerating higher degrees of hunger. During development, we found that it is better not to penalise short periods of overperformance, but the ideal is to stay within the target range as much as possible.
-
Why is the BMI Target range limited?
Dash is specifically intended to help adults maintain their weight in the healthy BMI range. If you are worried that this range isn't realistic for you, just set it as high or low as you feel comfortable. We take customer safety seriously, and therefore can only give advice on how to maintain a healthy weight.
-
Can I use a non-digital scale?
It isn't recommended. Dash expects weights to be correct to the nearest 100 grams, preferably less. To avoid adding random variation to the data stream, use a high quality digital scale, and keep it charged and on a flat surface.
